The Challenge They Came With

IxDA had always moved Interaction to a different city each year, then ran it online through 2021 and 2022. For 2023 they wanted the physical experience back, without losing the global reach the online years had built.

So they brought it to Zurich and went hybrid for the first time. They needed one partner for the entire digital and technical production. EVERYWOW had produced their 2022 online conference, so they came back.

  • The room and the livestream experience had to be equally good.
  • Three stages in parallel, each streamed live, across three days.
  • Every talk subtitled live, on the LED walls and online.
A presenter stands on stage in an empty auditorium, holding notes and speaking into a microphone, with cameras capturing the scene. The seating area is filled with rows of chairs, and people can be seen in the background preparing for an event.

A camera operator filming a speaker at a conference with a presentation slide that reads '3 ways to design tools that transform how people work.' The audience is seated in rows in the background.

Who’s on Camera

Dozens of speakers presented across the three stages to the audience in Zurich, more than 50 talks in all. Some of them were never in Zurich at all: they joined live remotely or we produced their talk before the conference started.

A remote speaker on a screen can’t see who they’re talking to, and the audience recognizes that. So we gave every remote speaker a return video feed of the on-site audience and a clean line to the moderator on stage. They could see the room they were addressing and trade questions with the host without a beat of hassle. On the LED walls it looked like two people talking.

How It Ran

Behind the Scenes

The Hard Part

Three stages ran at once, each streamed live across all three days, with no gap to recover if something slipped.

That scale needs people. We ran it with a 15-person crew, every stage covered: a single point-of-contact producer, videographers, livestream operators, a vision mixer, and logistical support.

  • Three stages, three live streams, in parallel
  • A 15-person crew, every stage covered
  • 100% reliable delivery across three days

What Came Out of It

More than 50 talks across three stages over three days, streamed live to 2,000 online participants.

The headline speakers filled the room whether they were on stage or joining live remotely.

Interaction 23 was the second conference EVERYWOW produced for IxDA, after the 2022 online edition. Going hybrid kept the online reach and brought the community back into the room.

A stage filled with volunteers standing in front of large signs reading 'OUT KOOL' and 'THE FUTURE.' Audience members are sitting in chairs, facing the stage, while some applaud.
